Men of the Nigeria Police from the Inspector General of Police office on Tuesday raided the Abuja residence of the Ijaw National leader, Chief Edwin Clark.
It was reported that the aim of the policemen at the home of Clark was to search for arms and ammunition.
The Punch gathered that the operatives who are members of the IGP Tactical team were armed with a search warrant from one of the magistrates’ courts in Abuja.
The team was alleged to have searched the entire premises and all the rooms in the building including his room and that of his wife for the suspected arms.
The search was said to have lasted for over two hours.
They also reportedly smashed the phones of workers and relatives of the elder statesman who tried to capture the incident on video and threatened to beat them until the clips were deleted.
No arms or ammunition was found during the search.
Chief Clark confirmed the development to The PUNCH on the telephone on Tuesday.
