The Alliance of Collaborating Political Parties (ACPP) has stated that the outcome of the two-legged Osun governorship election held on Saturday September 22 and Thursday, September 27th respectively was the clear reflection of the wishes of Osun people.
The ACPP which is an alliance of political parties that participated in the election, stated this at a press conference in Osogbo on Monday.
The statement, read by Prince Adesoji Macilo also contained congratulatory message to the Governor-elect, Gboyega Oyetola and urged him to be governor for all the citizens residents.
Prince Macilo added that all of them in the group have conceded defeats and are ready to go back to drawing board and re-strategize.
The statement reads in part, “The election was declared inconclusive by INEC after the first ballot, because the results were cancelled in seven polling units in Ife North and South, Orolu and Osogbo local government areas. Though the candidate of PDP was leading by 353 votes after the first ballot, the total registered number of voters in the cancelled polling units were more than the margin. Hence it deemed it fit to allow rerun.
“Indeed, the assumption turned out to be prescient as the results of the rerun significantly influenced the outcome and reverse the PDP’s victory.
“We will therefore congratulate the winner,, Gboyega Oyetola of APC. It was a fought democratic battle that stretched candidate and kept everyone at the edge of the seat till it came out with a dramatic denouement at the tail end. It was a well deserved victory.
The group however, condemned the vote buying which it attributed to the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
“The second is the role of the law enforcement agents. There were reports that thugs and fake voters were brought from Kwara State. Many of them impersonated journalists, observers and voters. They were warehoused in schools and hotels belonging to PDP members. From the official release of the police, 16 card carrying members of PDP pretending to be observers were arrested.
The group urged the security agents and INEC to work better on ensuring that election officials are guided against the desperate politicians.
