The Association of Online Media Practitioners of Nigeria (OMPAN), Ekiti State Chapter in a Press Release issued in Ado Ekiti on Friday and jointly signed by the State Chairman, Mr. Abere Ayodele and the State Secretary, Comrade Emmanuel Adeniran in Ado Ekiti has urged the new Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi (JKF), to focus on fighting poverty in the State as he pilots the affairs of the government of the State for the next four years in Office.
The Ekiti OMPAN noted with great concern the level of poverty that has eating deep into the State. The body advised Fayemi to declare war against poverty and hunger in the State before it becomes uncontrollable. The statement also reads: “Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the new Governor of Ekiti State must work hard to make money flow in circulation by patronising local contents. Patronising local contents is very key at fighting poverty and hunger in our dear State because it will allow every sector of the State’s economy to be meaningfully engaged and not rendered idle or ineffective. Importing contents from outside the State should be eradicated and totally discouraged for the people of the State to be happy and be in peace with the new government which at the long run, will help the administration of Dr. Kayode Fayemi to maintain his political touch and relevance with the suffering people of the State from time to time”.
Aside the issue of poverty, the Ekiti OMPAN also advised that “street lights should be provided on the road passing through the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in Ado Ekiti from the Eyitayo Pavillon end of the road to the Federal Polytechnic Satellite Campus end to exposed criminals that may want to perpetrate evil on the road during the night time. More attention should also be given to the youths of Ekiti by empowering them across political parties lines and without sentiments or influence. The poor transport network system currently being experienced in the State Capital should also be immediately addressed as it has been observed with dismay over the years that taxi drivers have not been plying roads like that of the Ejigbo to Delight Hotel to Eyitayo Pavillon, from Fajuyi to Federal INEC, from Ejigbo to ABUAD/Federal Polytechnic in Ado Ekiti, from Okesa / Okeyinmi to Oke – Ila to Afao Road, from Mobil Ajilosun to Ekute, from Ajilosun to Agric Olope, from Irona to 133KVA Area and many other routes”.
Speaking further, the statement equally enjoined that Governor Kayode Fayemi should focus more on Human Development and Empowerment Programmes rather than Infrastructural Development that seems to be benefitting only the few people in the State when the experiences of the past are put into consideration. “The services of the youths of Ekiti State should be employed to ensure the economy of the State is alive again and the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the State increases in worth and in income. Illiteracies among the old and young schools drop outs should be stamped out and nailed into the bud”.
The statement equally congratulated the new Governor, Dr. John Kayode Fayemi for the success of his week-longed second term inauguration as Governor of the Fountain of Knowledge and the Land of Honour. The Association also commended the Wife of the Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi for standing solidly behind her husband during the turbulent period. Ekiti OMPAN advised Ekiti Women to learn lessons from the exemplary attributes exhibited and displayed by Erelu Bisi Fayemi since 2014 till the time the husband was re-elected to govern the State by imbibing and inculcating such in relating with their husbands at home.
The Ekiti OMPAN condemned the attitudes and excesses of some housewives who leveraged and use as excuse the Erelu Bisi Fayemi’s humanitarian gestures towards women to misbehave to their husbands at home as evil and totally uncalled for. The statement equally advised women to be submissive to their husbands at home and not allow evil friends to negatively influence and incites them against their husbands.
In conclusion, the Ekiti OMPAN advised Governor Kayode Fayemi “to grow the Ekiti economy into a level where all citizens will enjoy and live a better life, the youths (young intellectuals), the media (both the Print, the Electronics and the Online mediums now popularly known as New Media), the Private and Public Sectors, owners of local contents, Farmers, Entrepreneurs and creative minds must be assembled in a Special State Summit to rake in more ideas on how to fast track the development and progress of the people of the State. When the people are okay, the State will be okay too. Dr. Kayode Fayemi must take care of the finances, economy and the needs of the people of the State first before any other thing. Governor Kayode Fayemi must ensure he serves the interests of the majority of the people of the State first if not all and not the few ones that will form his cabinet or that of the members of his political party”, the statement stated.
