The State Government of Osun under the leadership of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has rolled out its landmark achievements in the area of commerce and industry and poverty alleviation in the last eight years.

Addressing the newsmen in Osogbo on Monday, the State Commissioner for commerce, industries and cooperatives, Mr Ismaila Adekunle Jayeoba-Alagbada stated that the government has made an unprecedented investment in the people of the state through different micro-credit loans, grants and empowerment to men, women and youths who are owners of small and medium enterprises in different sectors of the economy.

He said, “Mr. Governor has kept faith with the people of Osun in dogged implementation of the well-known six-point integral action plan of his successful interventions of the administration which he tagged “My Pact with the People”.

The Commissioner highlighted various successful interventions of the administration in agriculture, education, health, job creation, peaceful communal co-existence, poverty banishment and other critical investments of the state government.

He also revealed that the administration has restructured the cooperative sector and has grew its credit facility to accommodate more micro and small medium enterprises.

“As the Osun economy rapidly urbanises and benefits from the considerable socio-economic investments of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola led administration, the State Government has through its micro-credit agency undertaken another groundbreaking step towards tackling the issue of MSME financing. The has implemented a digital transformation project aimed at improving efficiency, raising standards of people-oriented service delivery, adopting global risk management and improving operational transparency.

“Prior to the advent of the administration, the total number of registered cooperative societies in the state was 9,359. As at 30th of September, 2018, the number has risen to 24,644 meaning that 15,285 societies have been added”

In the area of agriculture, the Aregbesola-led administration empowered the 332 cadets of the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme to the tune of 33.2m to take off cocoyam from farmers and supply to food vendors under the State O-Meal programme.

In transport sector, Mr Jayeoba-Alagbada said that the government has been able to boost the sector and also created a ease in public commuting by procuring “132 new Toyota Hiace and mini buses for the indigenous commuters and also made 106m naira available to Osun transporters in FCT”.
