Nigeria had many military coups, but that of January 15, 1966 is considered sui generis.
Olayemi Dlaw,2019.

Coup in Africa started in the North
And eventually adopted in the West
Nigeria was not an exemption
As January 15 was military intervention

It was a tragic Friday
For a sovereign States
Struck by a calamitous cyclone
It was not an attribute of the anglophones

It led to the death of top politicians
Who were alleged of political shenanigans
The major target was the prime minister
In a system of government called Westminster

January fifteen ended our first republic
As the civilian leaders were killed in public
It was a bloody coup in history
And the military had victory

Alas! It was the beginning of tribalism
Between the North and East was ethnocentrism
Those who were killed were not Easterners
This was the yearning of the Northerners

Gen.Aguyi Ironsi became the head of State
After the efforts of Nzeogwu and others in the base
With the promises to correct civilians boo-boo
Ruling us with decree, and who dares fumble?

Today in history is no longer a mystery
Both military and civilian set up a jamboree
Which was totally different from diarchy
A system that will end in oligarchy
