Governor Sani Bello of the All Progressives Congress has won his reelection bid in Niger State.
The APC governorship candidate polled 526,412 votes to defeat his closest opponent, Umar Nasko of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled a total of 298,065 votes.
The Returning Officer, Professor Angela Miri, announced the result at the INEC collation centre in Minna, the state capital, saying Governor Bello was declared the winner and returned elected having polled the highest votes in the election.
There’s was a mild drama earlier before the declaration of the winner as some PDP women stormed the collation Center to demand the cancellation of the results.
The insisted that the will of people have been subverted with their mandates stolen by the APC. They also called on the PDP state chairman who has been on the seat to monitor the process not to sign the result.
In what looks like yielding to the demand of the protesters, the PDP chairman left the hall without signing the result sheet.
Meanwhile, results presented by the various local government electoral officers showed that the APC won all the 25 local government areas in the governorship election.
