CLAIM:
Facebook, Instagram Twitter and some online media in Nigeria have been agog over the death of an ace comedian, Babatunde Omidina popularly known as BabaSuwe who was confirmed to be critically ill since last year following a court tussle between him and the officials of the NDLEA alleging him to have been in the possession of cocaine substances some years ago.
Tribune Online had, also on Friday, April 19, reported that Babasuwe who is battling with chronic diabetes has been flown to America for medication following the fund generated for him.
But people on Tuesday, April 23/04/2019 woke up to the circulation of his demise, saying that he has died in the America Hospital where he was flown to.
A screenshot of Osun Defender’ twitter handle claiming the death of the actor gathered about 7likes and 6 retweets also contributed to the false claim.
Several other twitter handles both on Instagram and Twitter contributed to the speculations and it arouse more piety for the embattling actor.
In this process of this circulation, Mr Kayode Olaiya aka Aderupoko’’ was contacted by Insightmedia for confirmation but claimed to reach a person close to him there and that he would get back.
The same claim was also posted on Facebook at exactly 3:02 pm on Tuesday by the Facebook page of a veteran fuji Musician, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma’s fan page with the caption “BABATUNDE OMIDINA (AKA BABA SUWE) IS GONE, REST IN PEACE gathered 3.6K likes, 3.5K comments and 5.2K shares.
Meanwhile, all efforts to reach ‘BabaSuwe’ himself proves abortive but at about 4:15pm today, a viral video with about 22k views and caption: ‘BabaSuwe is not dead’ broke the silence, specifically from Bolaji Amusan aka Mr Latin, another comedian in the Yoruba Nollywood via YabaLeftOnline.com saying:
“Good Afternoon Everybody, the purported rumour about BabaSuwe’s death is fake,
It is fake news, Babasuwe is alive, and he’s presently in America undergoing treatment,
I thank you for all your support and care,
BabaSuwe is hale and hearty.” He claimed.
INSIGHTLINKSMEDIA VERDICT: THE CLAIM IS FALSE
This claim is false; BabaSuwe is not dead as various sources have wrongly proven, he is still hospitalized in an undisclosed America hospital.
