The Permanent Secretary, State of Osun Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Fatai Adesina Kolawole has advised parents and guardians especially the elites in the State of Osun and Nigeria at large to adequately teach their children indigenous culture/language as this would ensure that the natural talents embedded in them blossom.

The education top echelon made this known last week Thursday 4th of April, 2019 while answering questions from newsmen
at the grand finale of the 3rd ÀSÁ DAY, a day event set aside in Osun schools academic calendar to showcase different Yoruba culture such as folklores, drama, music, mode of dressing, story telling, and some other Yoruba ways of life by the students of Elementary and middle schools in the State held at expansive hall of Osogbo Government High School, Osogbo, the State.

He however cautioned the parents and guardians especially the elites not to behave as somebody that dropped from the heaven, he appealed to them that as they go along with instilling foreign culture in their children, they should ensure that they use indigenous language to teach them as well.

The SUBEB helmsman while revealing the rationale behind the event said it was as a result of government observation that Yoruba language and by extension the indigenous culture is being relegated to the background in favour of foreign language which he opined was not good enough for education itself because everybody thinks first in their indigenous language.

The SUBEB Boss also charged the parents and guardians to try to support and nurture any talent that their child has be it culture, sporting activities or whatever legitimate means they can do to make a living because “white collar job is fast vanishing and if a child can use his/her talent so be it”, he concluded

The event which was declared opened by the Deputy Governor, Mr. Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, who represented Governor Gboyega Oyetola had in attendance the Head of Service of the State, Dr. Oyebade Olowogboyega, His Royal Majesty, Orangun of Okee-Ila, Oba Abolarin, Mr. Omotunde Young, Hon. Supervisor, Ministry of Education, Dr. Isiaka Ayodele Owoade, Member, Education Management Committee, Hon. Tunde Lekan Olatunji, Mrs. Mujidat Kolawole, Wife of Osun SUBEB PS, Tutor generals, Mrs. Ajiboye, a retired Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mrs Raji, Senior Special Assistant on vocational education and other stakeholders in the education sector.
