Highlights Achievements in Education, Health, Infrastructure, Others
The Chairman of Irepodun local government area of the State of Osun, Hon Abayomi Anthony Oyedeji has stated that the only hindrance facing local government administrations is lack of prudence in their spendings.
Hon Oyedeji stated this while speaking with Insight Media Correspondents in his office in Ilobu on Monday, April 8.
The council boss, who admitted that there’s a paucity of funds in the country but the meagre accrued to councils can sustain the LG, if well utilized and leakages blocked.
Oyedeji highlighted his achievements as the helmsman of Irepodun which according to him are products of his prudent management of available resources at his disposal.
“When we got into office in 2017 as Executive Secretary and his cabinet, the whole local government was in a state of comatose. Even the secretariat was leaking and was in total blackout with a debt of about seven million naira to be paid to IBEDC”, he said.
“We took the challenges upon ourselves and we were able to surmount them. Today, we did not only put the local government in good shape, we also ensure that we are clearing the debt,” he continued.
“In areas of health, what we met was nothing to write home about. Our clinics lack basic equipments and first aid kits. We took it upon ourselves and today we’ve transform the whole sector for the benefit of our people”.
In the area of economy and human capital development, the Oyedeji-led administration has also provided two sets of lock up shops in Ilobu and empowered over 200 people with reasonable sums to start businesses while also training youths on skills to engage them meaningfully.
Other achievements recorded within the space of 22 months of his administration are renovation of community library at St Paul Grammar school, purchase of nine brand new official vehicles, grading of roads that link to over seven rural communities, distribution of farm tools and seedlings to farmers to enhance farming and banish hunger.
Abayomi also stated that the LG has taken the government to the people and has been doing all its best to support community-based organizations, NGOs, Student body and so on in their quests to uplift the living standards of the people.
When asked about the government of Mr Gboyega Oyetola, the council boss said, “the administration of Oyetola can never derail from progressive governance. Look at states where APC controls, you’ll see that our party’s manifestos are broad and people’s oriented. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola had laid foundation and it is easy for Oyetola to build on it being the Chief of Staff to Aregbesola. He’s a silent achiever whose brilliance will take Osun to the next level”.
