Nigerians, regardless of the class, have been enjoined to always kind to widows and orphans in the society.
This advice was contained in the first annual Alhaja Raliat Adebisi Memorial Ramadan Lecture organized by Hope-Alive Charity Initiatives, Ilobu.
In his lecture, Mallam Kamaldeen Moh’d Jamiu admonished Muslims and non Muslims to always be nice to widows and orphans in the society as Islam teaches.
The Cleric who narrated how Prophet Musa helped the incapacitated women during his life time, added that Islam gives a special recognition to the vulnerable ones in the society.
He said, “Islam gives respect to the women in general, because of their fragile nature while according special respect to the widows. This is why the Holy Quran specially treats women with dignity.
“Young and old widows will always be in need of our assistance. We must always give them what we are capable of as this will not only put smiles know their faces but also be rewarded hugely by Almighty Allah”.
Mallam Moh’d Jamiu also clarified that young widows who desire to remarry are allowed to do so according to Islamic principles.
“Young widow who feel like remarrying after the death of her husband is permitted to do so according to Islamic injunction. Forcing widow to marry from the family of his deceased husband as against her wish is against the dictates of the Holy Quran”, he said.
In his remark, the Chairman of the occasion and son of Alhaja Raliat, Alhaji Dauda Adebisi-Balogun admonished women to secure better future for their children through their husbands.
Represented by his wife, Alhaja Basirat Adebisi-Balogun, the Ilobu-Asake Development Union National President commended the organizers of the event and promised to always give his full support.
In his speech, the Coordinator of the group, Quadri Adebayo said his team has taken it upon themselves to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged in the society.
He added that more programmes aimed at elevating the lower class people in the society are still coming.
He therefore called on those with riches to support the dreams of the organization and ensure poverty is driven away from the community.
Among the distinguished personalities at the event were Chief Imam of Ilobu land, Sheikh Jamiu Bello who was represented by Head of Ratib Imams, Vice chairman, Irepodun LG, Hon Mojeed Azeez, Wife of former Commissioner for Local government and chieftaincy affairs, Mrs Naimot Kolapo-Alimi, Iya Sunah of Ilobu land among others.
Highlights of the event were Quranic competition between students of Galaxy model college and An-Nur Islamic college, Ilobu.
Over hundred widows who were present were given food items by the organization.
