There is a palpable tension in Irepodun/Orolu state constituency of Osun state over who clinches the sole commissioner ticket zoned to the area by Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

Insight media reliably gathered that the at the federal constituency meeting which comprised of Osogbo, Olorunda, Irepodun and Orolu, held in Osogbo on Monday, August 5, 2019, where Osogbo and Olorunda resolved theirs, the resolution between the Irepodun and Orolu ended in deadlock.

Since then, the actors in the race, who have been making frantic efforts and calculations to ensure that they clinch the slot have reportedly been on one another’s neck, with the exception of the person from Ilobu.

The constituency comprised of three communities; Ilobu, Erin (both in Irepodun LG) and Ifon in Orolu. Some opined that for political balancing, since Orolu is having the federal house of assembly member in person of Hon Bukola Oyewo and Ilobu is having the state honorable in Nasirudeen Olateju.

This may not, however, be isolated from the fact that those making such calculations see themselves as the beneficiaries of it.

At the meeting on Monday, three people, including a former commissioner under Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola’s administration, a honourable between 1999 and 2003 and a former Irepodun LG chairman.

On Monday, some thugs allegedly traced car of one of them until the driver entered a police station. He added that he could not sleep at like as he remained unsafe over the battle.

According to the driver, who is a son of the one if Erin aspirants, “I went to take Daddy’s car and I sensed that a car was trailing me. The car followed me for some minutes, so I had to move into a police station in Osogbo before the driver zoomed off.”

“Today, (Tuesday) some of daddy’s supporters were attacked in Osogbo after a meeting him.” When asked who he suspects to be behind the attack? He said he suspects a former commissioner who was accompanied to Monday meeting by thugs. Erin has been hot for days as those thugs have been disrupting the peace of the community.

However, some people in the constituency are against the nomination of a former honourable representing the constituency in the state assembly. They argued that having spent twelve years in the legislature, he supposed to go and rest.

The Ilobu candidate has remained silence as he believes only Governor Oyetola will have final say on whoever name submitted to him.

Speaking through his aide, he said, “I don’t believe in violence at all and I will never employed it to achieve any ambition. I believe cabinet members are appointed by the governor and not through any election. Fine, the governor asked the party to nominate for him but he still have the final say on who works with.”
