A socio-political group in Oriade and Obokun local government areas of Osun state, Olufemi Akosile Progressive Vanguard has launched a scholarship scheme for the indigenous students of public schools in the area.

Unveiling the scheme in Ijebu-Jesa, Oriade local government headquarters on Saturday, the Director General of Olufemi Akosile Progressive Vanguard, Elder Olufemi Samuel Awe disclosed that the programme is the first of numerous empowerment programmes that the vanguard will undertake in the communities that make the two local government areas.

While giving the modalities on the scholarship, Elder Awe said that ward coordinators of the vanguard will work hand-in-hand with the principals of all public secondary schools in the area to ensure that students are informed and obtain forms, free of charge.

He said, “We have inaugurated ward coordinators across the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency and they are to liaise with the principals of secondary schools to ensure as many as possible students obtain the forms. The forms will be available in all schools.

Elder Awe enjoined all the students to obtain their forms as it has nothing to do with politics or religion.

The Vanguard also inaugurated 22 ward coordinators across the two local who will be ambassadors of the group in their respective domains. Elder Awe charged the coordinators to shun selfishness and partisanship in the selection of beneficiaries of empowerment programmes of the group, adding that widows will be empowered by December.

Speaking with newsmen, the Sponsor of the Vanguard, Engr Olufemi Akosile who was represented by Ademola Olalekan said his motivation behind the initiative is to reduce poverty and ensure brilliant students of less privileged in the society have their dreams become reality.

While calling on students to participate in the contest, Akosile said he has been doing empowerment for people of Erin-Ijesa since 2016 but felt the need to extend it to other parts of the federal constituency.

Three best students will be given full scholarship in the grand finale of the contest slated for March next year.
