The National Library of Nigeria during it’s 2019 Readership Promotion Campaign with a theme: “Reading, a Tool For Empowering The Vulnerable” which took place in 36 States of the federation and Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Osun state campaign took place in Iragbiji yesterday; Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at the Iragbiji Town Hall which had in attendance; Royal fathers, Chiefs, Adults, Adolescents, Students, artisans among others.
National Librarian and Chief Executive Officer, CEO, prof, Lanre Aina ably represented disclosed that the campaign was carried out over the years to encourage readings amongst Nigerians by way of carrying out sensitization activities and provision of good reading materials to ameliorate poor reading culture in Nigeria.
Dr. Mrs. Ajibola A.S; The Head of Branch of The National Library of Nigeria, Osun state, also pointed out that inmates would be trained to be useful in society. She said further that the Library is open to all and the workers are ready to take users through.
Prince Adeyeye Oyedokun; Former Director General, Osun State Broadcasting Corporation also said “If Reading Culture is killed in this country, there will be retrogression. If care is not taken, a number of people may be treading the path of vulnerability because even to understand usage of drugs.
It is therefore pertinent at this junction to appeal to Author’s, Publishers and Researchers to collaborate with the National Library of Nigeria in its Campaign particularly as it relates to reading culture”.
Books should be donated to schools and even motor parks.
The Royal fathers also urged everyone not to forget our culture, our Language as its our Heritage.
