Osun State Government has ordered all basic and elementary schools in the State to hold “Open Day” in all public schools in Osun tomorrow, Thursday 31st October, 2019.
The directive was contained in a message issued to all principals of middle schools in the State by the Permanent Secretary, State Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Fatai Kolawole, a copy which was made available to newsmen today.
The “Open Day” exercise is an innovation developed by the state government to provide an opportunity for parents and guardians of the pupils to monitor and measure the academic performance of their wards.
The exercise is a teacher/parent participatory one where a parent would have an opportunity to interact with their pupil’s teacher, how fared their child is, and what they are to do more to sufficiently increase the academic performance of their wards.
Speaking specifically on the importance of the exercise via a telephone conversation, the SUBEB helmsman, Alhaji Kolawole said the open day activity will provide an “insights into the learning achievements and moral conduct of their children or wards in the schools”
He said further that it will, “afford the schools an opportunity to inform the parents about school activities and solicit their support for the overall success of the students, he concluded.
It will be recalled that the State of Osun Government had through the State Universal Basic Education Board initiated many far-reaching reforms including pupils’ self-development initiatives such as ASA Day, community involvement initiative among others all aimed at developing the pupils in all ramifications and improving their life skills.
