There was pendomum and heavy drama at the Plateau state PDP Secretariat on Monday morning when a serving Senator, ID Gyang stormed the secretariat with hundreds of hunters carrying dane guns and civil defence officers to forcefully remove the state chairman of the party, Hon Amos Gombi.
According to eyewitnesses who spoke with our reporter, immediately after the senator and his entourage got access to the building before settling down for the business that brought them, news filtered to the group loyal to the state leadership and they mobilised and storm the party Secretariat.
Crisis erupted sooner after the other group arrived at the Secretariat and it took the intervention of the police deployed to the area who used teargas to dispatch the youths before the situation got out of control. It was also reported that the security men attached to the Senator fired live bullet on the youths who demanded the senator and his team vacate the Secretariat.
One person was injured and on critical situation in hospital as at time of filing this report.
The group loyal to the Chairman took over the Secretariat, former Speaker of the Plateau state house of Assembly and former member House of Representatives RT Hon Emma Goar addressed journalist at the Secretariat on behalf of the SWC members of the party, while the senator and his team relocated to their meeting to Sen Jonah Jang residence in Du, Jos.
Confirming the development another eye witness and PDP member in the state Hon Emma Macham said, the situation was shocking and unbelievable.
Macham queried “the type of urgent meeting could have warrant such security presence and for the first time vigilantes and hunters are taking part in PDP affairs, how can a PDP meeting be slated for 6am?”
Security agents are currently carrying out their investigation to unravel the motive of that meeting which nearly throw the entire state into confusion.
Macham said, “the National headquarters must act fast in sanctioning those involved in this shameful act.”
