Although, during the electioneering, period, I was not in his camp. All effort to lure me proved abortive. This is due to that fact that his opponent, who is now the speaker of faculty of physical science Student Representatives Council, Opeyemi Odebunmi is not only intellectually sound but also possesses required experience, intelligence and administrative acumen to lead the union. More so, I saw in him [Opeyemi ] the first president of the union from my Alma mater, University of Ilorin while Comrade Ridwan Alayande come from a school that produced four of the last eight presidents of the union.

Immediately after his swearing in, Da Real basked little in the euphoria of victory as he embarked on reconciliation mission to bring people with dissenting voices on board. Being someone whose hobby can be called ‘’trekking’’, moving from Ire Akari to Oke Ima, Idire to Ojutu and even crossing the bridge to Alapupu was easy for him. He was able to bring people on board and this ultimately paid off.

His administration started on a stormy note as his predecessor left nothing for him while the electoral committee misappropriated large part of electoral proceeds (a case for another day).

Upon settling down the Amelioration era kick started their government with moral and career talks for High school students in Ilobu, a traditional programme with some modern and unprecedented spices all aimed at training and retraining the student on choices of career, discovery of talents and preparation for the bigger challenges ahead. The election sensitization program birthed by Com. Teslim Olaosebikan’s administration of 2015 was rejigged and represented to the public in a fashion that soothed then atmosphere. Also deserve a mention is the education summit held on May 15. It was brilliant, revealing and thought-provoking. The programme will go a long way to shape policies in the Ministry of Education, if utilized by the authorities concerned.

What really inspired me is his tenacity, perseverance, commitment and sense of focus to bring back someone who has been disconnected from the activities of INSU, back to the union. Like it or leave it, the realignment with Rt Hon Lasun Yusuff has redefined the fortunes and brought about realization of age-long ambition of INSU ventures. Just for you to know how unrealistic this project has portrayed itself, eight past administrations (that I was part of) have laboured in vain to achieve. INSU cyber cafe will forever be of great benefits to the community, considering the growing influence of technology on all aspects of our lives. The twenty brand new laptops donated by the immediate past Deputy Speaker easily lessened the task and gave a clear direction to the cyber cafe.

Da Real will continue to be remembered by several generations that will be benefiting from another fruit of the realignment with Hon Lasun. The scholarship programme, which we see twenty students getting two hundred thousand naira yearly from the Ikolaba of Ilobu is another fantastic achievement of the 2019 Amelioration Era. I could remember how a friend, Basit Olokuta was full of daily lamentation after his NYSC year that took him to Kaduna. His headache, which has been partly cured, is that succor was coming towards the ways of children of less privileged in our community to further their education. At this point, it’s pertinent to state that the remaining part of my friend’s headache, in extension, everyone’s issue of concern, is a similar scholarship to cushion post graduate students’ expenses. Nigeria of today is not appreciative of Bachelor’s degree again and Ilobu sons and daughters must not be left out this dynamism. I call on others, the local government, Ilobu-Asake Development Union and other individuals to look into this and give it some thoughts. Basit will in few days give a comprehensive analysis on this. Stay tuned to InsightMedia.

Back to the business, apart from Hon Lasun’s scholarship, Alayande was able to for the first time, bring home a golden son of Ilobu from Abuja, Arc. Tunde Amos Ojo, the Secretary Procurement Estate and Works, National Assembly, to INSU programme. His presence also brought about a huge donation and also a promise of scholarship to every new entrants into Universities every year. What a great work done for future generations! I think we should say a big thank you to everyone in Amelioration Team.

May I also commend your sagacity towards steering the union away from being seen as a political tool during the 2019 general election. Everywhere was volatile and groups took sides but INSU as a body took none. This is commendable and must be emulated by NAOSS National Headquarters which has in the past become a political tool used for some unholy acts.

Now that you have left office for another brother, Kamaldeen Tiamiyu (Dan Aluta), I hope you’ll not join the league of presidents other past executives who see themselves as being bigger than the union or nurse orientation of “I have nothing in the union” again. As I told you then, “you’re not successful when your successor fails”.

To the new administration, I’m aware that your election also recorded some level of turbulence that led to slapping and other forms of verbal and physical assaults. The onus lies on the President to bring people together again and ensures the administration sets the ball rolling. Work with capable hands, be humble and ensure you are seeing as a symbol of unity, integrity and hard-working. These are the keys to success. INSU makes and mars. You choose what you want.
