Do you know there is one region in the world that is known to be a hyper-troubled zone and most warring region in the world? Even with the highest order of socio-political instability therein, it is yet the amazingly beautiful region that has birth exquisite human evolution of the world.
This warring but yet beautiful region is no other than the Middle East Region. It must be recalled that, Middle East is measured to be a transcontinental region bordered on Western Asia and Egypt. As such, it consists of about 17 countries such as Bahrain, Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirate (UAE) and Yemen.
The largest ethnic groups among them are Arabs, Turks, Persians, Kurds, Azeris to mention but few, though with some important element of indigenous minority which include Jews, Assyrians, Arameans, Berbers, Druzer, Tats, and the Zazas. Interestingly, the region has some unique features that affect the present global system, which has of course make it beautiful, even though, it is the most warring region in the war.
To start with, the geopolitical importance of the region is such that, it is being recognized for civilization, as a home to some of the world’s earliest civilizations as found in Egypt among others.
More Importantly, several major religions practice today have their origins in the Middle East including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Bahai Faith inter alia. These religions have influence the religious practices in the world. No wonder, those who have Islamic or Christian affiliation show support for the country of their religion during the Middle East crises. Notably, the influx of millions of people across the globe into this region specifically to Jerusalem and Mecca for annual pilgrimage all in the name of worshiping God x-rays the significance of this beautiful region.
As a matter of fact, most Middle East countries have vast reserves of crude oil, with monarchs of Arabian Peninsula benefiting economically from petroleum export, model to the historic establishment of OPEC by some countries of this region.
Geographically speaking, Middle East has a hot arid climate with several major rivers providing irrigation to support agriculture such as Nile in Egypt, Trigris and Euphrates in Mesopotamia, River Jordan in Jordan, the Red Sea and Dead Sea, in most of what is now known as the ‘Fertile Crescent’ which cut across different continents as in Europe, Asia, Africa and Europe important, they also serve as strategic location of traffic in the world.
In view of the above evidence, one would wonder why this subcontinent region has witnessed a continuous and tumultuous history even though it is a crossroads for religions, culture, civilization, commerce and politics, also held historic testimony of regional power viz the Canaanite, ancient Egypt, Persian, Byzantine, Israelites, Umayyad, Abbasid, Crusaders, Ottoman, among others. What are the factors that contribute to the reign of conflicts and violence in the Middle East region? Who are the causal agents that undermine the peaceful existence of Middle East region?
