•Local governments control their funds in line with NFIU
•AbdulRazaq has taken no loan since assuming office
The Kwara State Government has doused the tension in the air, assuring the civil servants across Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the state of its sincere commitment and readiness to start the payment of the new minimum wage as soon as the negotiation concludes.
The Commissioner of Finance and Planning on the state, Mrs. Olasumbo Florence Oyeyemi made the disclosure today while featuring on a Sobi FM breakfast program tagged Rebirth Half.
She maintained that the State Government has agreed to pay the new 30,000 Minimum Wage, while talks are rightly ongoing on the negotiations of consequential adjustments, she affirmed that the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq prioritizes the welfare of civil servants and is committed to ensuring a better life for all Kwarans without any parochial considerations.
“We need to commend the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq for his unflinching commitment, transparency, accountability and supports for the tripartite committee towards fast tracking the prompt implementation and payment of the new Minimum Wage. We’re assuring members of the public, especially concerned persons in Ministries, Departments and Agencies that very soon, the payment would start,” she added.
Also speaking on the debts inherited from the past administration, Oyeyemi lamented that the shortfalls cut across different sectors of the economy, while assuring that modalities are being put in place to offset and pay up the debts. She also re-emphasized that local governments in the state since June 1, 2019 controls their funds as Kwara is NFIU compliant.
The Commissioner noted that the new government ably led by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has not taken any loan but taking thoughtful actions judiciously despite the paucity of funds. She said the last administration’s undisclosed debt has now reflected in our risen debt profile.
On the 2020 Appropriation law, she noted that “It is a budget of reconstruction and reformation which was designed to uplift people from hardship and penury and proffer everlasting panacea to infrastructural deficits through critical infrastructure and human capital development “
During the program, audiences who phoned in commended the state Governor for his undying efforts towards rebuilding and restructuring the state despite the number of incalculable ills they inherited, imploring the committee to fast track the processes so that the economy of the state could be revamped and life could subsequently be bearable for all.
