OKE APOMU/SARUMI ROAD POOR DRAINAGE SYSTEM: AN APPEAL TO HALT IRREPARABLE DAMAGES.

Good day Your Excellency sir,

About a year ago, most leaders of the world, and most particularly, the bigwigs of Nigeria Politics were interested in what will be the decision of Kwarans in respect to the then Gubernatorial election.

Indeed, it was not like the usual Political chronicle in our dear State in the past, the political system transcended and metamorphosed to a political movement.

A time when Okada riders would press their horns in tandem with the movement slogan tagged “O to ge.” All the corners and crevices of the state embraced the catchphrase.

Your Excellency sir, may I remind you of the drama emanated during your primaries? It is behold beyond a reasonable doubt that fortune and fate worked simultaneously to put you through amidst the aspirants who were Keenly interested in the position too.

Sir, March 9, 2019 was a day to remember in the historical line of Kwara State. A day Kwarans decided their fate by voting you in to experience new leadership. Glory be to Allah.

“When all is said and done, the real citadel of strength of any community is in the hearts and minds and desires of those who dwell there.” – Everett Dirksen.

Invoking from your speech on the inaugural address “Let me state that our goal in office is not to lament over the sad past. Rather, our goal is to build confidence that a better future is possible; create an enabling environment to empower our people and Communities.”

Your Excellency sir, I write to you in desperate concern for our future. Indeed, we live in time where those who know keep mute; they conceal the truth, and the ignorant flaunt all over with unredeemable ignorance.

Restoration of the presumed damage done would take a tremendous amount of time, national effort and huge amount of money that is supposed to serve another beneficial purpose. We need to start caring about tomorrow or there will not be a tomorrow to care about.

Through your esteemed office sir, I would like to draw your attention towards the bad and poor condition of the ongoing project of Oke Apomu/ Sarumi Road interlocking one-sided drainage.

As the project is said to be Urban Renewal Projects and being executed by the Kwara State Road Maintenance Agency (KWARMA) and it is being supervised by the Ministry of Works.

Your Excellency sir, the drainage is nothing to write home about as it lacks due quality, improper channeling and shallow. It has been in existence for years, contrary to the information read on the signpost, the one – sided drainage was just patched and even the procedure is worrisome in lieu of future disaster it could birth.

Your Excellency sir, the pile of garbage would be seen everywhere in the community. Bad smell would be arising from these refuses which cannot be bored by the residents.

Due to shallowness of the drainage, refuses would block the drain system – perhaps, no refuse bin in the community. The drain water will unarguably flow over from gutters. This would not only affect badly the condition of the roads but also creating immeasurable problems for the residents and the users at large.

Sir, this bad system will be generating many baleful diseases. Flies would equivalently spread around immensely and that would amount to uncontrollable growth of mosquitoes. Malaria would be broken out and many persons would become its victim – Malaria fever.

Your Excellency sir, I am with no doubt that you are a man of good listening ears and a true leader who is ready to welcome the opinion of the masses.

In your inaugural address sir, you reiterated that you are ready to lead by example and govern an inclusive governance. I salute your doggedness sir.

“Being the Queen is not all about singing, and being a diva is not all about singing. It has much to do with your service to people. And your social contributions to your community and your civic contributions as well.” – Aretha Franklin.

You said “Today, I invite you all to join hands with us in Government to repair and rebuild Kwara. I invite constructive criticism and urge you all to utilise our open door policy to communicate ideas and suggestions to us. This is your government, love it, hold it, pray for it and work with it so that our dreams will come true. As for me and those I will be working with; we have no other state than Kwara, we have no other dream than Kwara, and we have no other priority than Kwara. It is our home: let us build a true state of harmony together: Iseya!!!”

June 2019 in Ilorin; Olulande to be precise, the tearful experience witnessed by the inhabitants would never be prayed for again. Ever.

Flood wrecked the community and lots of damages were recorded. I write in desperate concern for our future.

Some of the victims, who spoke separately with NAN expressed sadness over the terrible occurrence and damage done to their property.

One of the victims, Mr Femi Olaoye, whose house was taken over by flood, said he was helpless as the water entered his siting room and kitchen.

“I was bitter and sad as there is nothing I could do to stop the flood from entering my house. It was only me and my two children at home. I wept bitterly to witness such terrible occurrence.” – Vanguard News June 27, 2019.

“Physically robust infrastructure is not enough if it fails to foster a healthy community; ultimately, all infrastructure is social”. – Pete Buttigeig.

Your Excellency sir, the nature of the drainage system is not satisfying, the water would get clogged up and several insects would start breeding there. The rainy season is on the way and with this condition sir, it would become a reason of great loss – a tragic one.

This worse presumed atmosphere would give birth to diseases like dengue fever and cholerae. If this condition would reign for weeks, his Excellency sir, we could lose count on lose of many precious bodies due to careless behavior of relevant authorities.

Your Excellency sir, I hereby, request that this matter should be taken in hand seriously by relevant authorities. Some immediate and decisive steps should be taken to avert this grim issue so that our people can live safe and comfortable.

I would be glad if you can visit the project site and check the drainage, this is a call to action and I represent the voiceless with my voice.

I am looking forward to seeing your prompt and positive response regarding this matter.

We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community… Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own. – Cesar Chavez.

Yours faithfully,
