The Senate has suspended plenary and other legislative works for two weeks in a bid to curtail the spread of coronavirus.

The upper chamber took the decision today after a short session presided over by Senate President Ahmed Lawan.

Lawan called on the federal government to vote more funds towards tackling the deadily virus in the country.

This suspension is coming after it was reported that 35 members of the National Assembly who travelled to London, United Kingdom for a seminar on Petroleum Industry Bill were said to have contacted coronavirus.

They were said to have refused screening and isolation since they entered the country.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control has announced two new cases of coronavirus in the country, taking the total number to 42. The new cases were detected in Lagos and Ogun states.
