The Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola has said his administration is aware of importance of water to live and is ready to ensure it’s available in abundance.

Oyetola added that the state government under his leadership will continue to do the needful to ensure availability of basic amenities for the people of the state, adding that the government was committed to ensuring free flow pipe borne water in the state.

The Governor stated this while inaugurating a 8-man Project Monitoring Committee on the ongoing construction of Ilesa water project, at the State Ministry of Water Resources and Energy, Government Secretariat, Abere, Osogbo.

The Ilesa water project is jointly funded by the State and Federal government through the federal ministries of Water Resources and Finance and the Islamic Development Bank.

The Committee which was constituted on the directive of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, was tasked to ensure quality service delivery through adequate supervision and monitoring to make sure that the project meets agreed standard and specifications in line with the project terms and conditions.

Inaugurating the Committee on Wednesday, Governor Oyetola, said the Committee was set up to ensure quick completion of the project within the stipulated time.

The governor who was represented by the Commissioner of Water Resources and Energy, Hon. Amidu Tadese Raheem, disclosed that the administration had put necessary mechanism in place to sustain the regular supply and distribution of water in the state.

Raheem, who is also the Chairman of the committee assured people of the beneficiary communities of quality job.

“As you all know, the project has reached reasonable level of completion, we are assuring our people that with this committee put in place, the quality job is assured,” he said.

He added that the committee would champion its oversight functions in line with the mandate given to it to promote efficiency in the delivery of the project.

“We are determined to ensure quality job. We shall ensure that the contractors handling the project meet up with the specifications and fulfill all the terms and conditions.

“We are on the pipes laying and distribution network and in few months to come, this will be completed while other components would follow. It is our hope to complete and deliver the project by this year or latest next year.

“We are all aware of the importance of water, that is why the Governor is taking it serious. As we all know, before his emergence, the issue of water had been a thing of concern, and since inception, this administration has been working tirelessly to ensure adequate water supply to every household in the state,” Raheem said.

Speaking during the inspection tour of some of the project sites in Ilesa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Water Resources and Energy, Engr. Felix Adeniran Ibitoye, assured the residents of quality job. He appealed to the people of Ijesaland to remain calm and cooperate with the contractors handling the work as government was committed towards restoring water to the zone.

Isaac Babalola; General Manager Osun State Water Corporation, Engr. Ademola Fatola; Project Coordinator, Ilesa Water Supply and Sanitation, Engr. E.A. Akinyele; Engr. L.M Rafiu and Mr. George Martins.
