Senate President, Ahmed Lawan has named Senator Ajibola Basiru, as the new chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs as he reshuffled some committee chairmanships.
Basiru, who represents Osun Central Senatorial District will take over as the spokesperson of the Senate from Godiya Akwashiki, who was acting spokesperson since the sacking of Senator Adedayo Adeyeye by appeal court.
Akwashiki (APC, Nasarawa) will now head the Senate Committee on Employment, Labour and Productivity while Biodun Olujimi, who replaced Adeyeye was named the chairman Senate Committee on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations.
Lawan made the announcement at the close of the plenary on Tuesday.
In his closing remarks, Mr Lawan thanked his colleagues for their hard work and consistency.
He assured that the Senate will reconvene to consider and pass the reviewed budget or the Medium Term Expenditure Framework as soon as they receive communication from the Executive.
He also directed all committees to continue their relevant activities after suspension of plenary.
The Senate President thereafter moved that the Senate will suspend sine dine and lawmakers are expected to work from home.
There’s no official resumption date yet and lawmakers will only reconvene when necessary.
