The State of Osun House of Assembly has confirmed the nomination of the Chairman and members of Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC.
The confirmation was done at Thursday’s plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Timothy Owoeye.
It would be recalled that Governor Gboyega Oyetola had on 19th May in a letter sent to the House of Assembly nominated Mr. Segun Oladitan (Chairman), Mrs Abosede Omibekun, Mr. Rufus Oyeniran, Alhaja Babalola Adubi, Mr Oladosu Gidigbi, Mr. Yinka Ajiboye and Alhaji Wahaab Adewoyin as members of the commission.
The nominees who appeared at Wednesday plenary were thoroughly screened by members of the House.
In his remarks, the Speaker charged the nominees to deliver a free, fair and credible election worthy of emulation.
He held that the 7th Assembly under his watch is committed to see that democracy thrives in all levels of governance.
According to the Speaker, “I am happy that some of the nominees are returning members where they are expected to bring in their wealth of experience.
“The administration of the Local Government tier in Osun is one that the APC-led government has always been bashed for the way it is outlined.
“Just last week, this Assembly sat to amend some sections of the local government creation and administration law to further strengthen it and entrench democracy”. He concluded.
