Former Abia state governor, Orji Uzor Kalu applied to the Appeal Court to retain Justice Muhammed Idris to continue with his trial, InsightMedia has gathered.
According to documents sighted by our correspondent, Kalu through his lawyer wrote the then President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa (rtd) to apply for the judge to complete the trial.
The supreme court has on Friday nullified the judgement that convicted Kalu, his company, Slok Nigeria Limited and Jones Udeogu, a former director of finance and accounts at Abia state government, stating that the judge lacked jurisdiction having been elevated to the appellate court.
The letter written by Kalu’s counsel, Gordy Uche (SAN) partly reads, “We are therefore constrained to humbly request that Hon. Justice M.a Idris JCA, be allowed to conclude the trial of this part heard corruption trit the Federal High Court, Lagos. Our application is hinged on the provisions of Section 396 () of the Administration.”
