The Kwara State Government under the leadership of Mallam Abdluraman Abdulrazaq has taken a serious exception to rape cases, which is presently ravaging the Nation at large and would do everything legally possible to put a permanent stop to it, and bring the evil parpetrators to book.
The state Communication Commissioner, Muritala Olanrewaju stated that the present administration is gender sensitive even in its cabinet appointment, and so would not tolerate human right violations of the entire citizens, especially women folks.
Olanrewaju said this in Ilorin today when members of Human Right Commission paid him a courtesy visit, which took place at the Conference Room of the Ministry.
Olanrewaju who noted with concern that women abuse is becoming more alarming in our society assured the visiting team of his ministry in whatever area their assistance is require and promised the production of jingles against rape and violence on women, as well as the use of Public Address System Van to sensitize the public.
Earlier, the Kwara State Coordinator of the Human Right Commission, Mrs Jumoke Olaoye lamented the rate at which women folks are being violated Nationwide, therefore calls for State Government’s support to end the menace, as human right abuse is very rampant these days.
Olaoye said the Commission decided to post indigens to their States of origins to make impact and so calling for states support to enhance more awareness and further sensitisation.
Mrs Olaoye who is also the team leader gave part of the Commission’s function as being empowered to collaborate with government agencies, escalate information, summon people for possible interrogation and pay visits to prisons called on members of the public to feel free to report any act of violation of their rights to the commission appropriately.
She noted that it is the responsibility and right of men to protect the female and not to abuse them, therefore called on government to make laws that will protect women against abuses.
Olaoye who disclosed that the Commission has handled and resolved over 200 cases of various violations so far said “NO to rape and human right violation,” urging members of the public to run to Human Right Commission if they are threatened in whatever form.
While thanking the Honourable Commissioner for the warm reception, she charged everyone present on the need to rise up and fight for women’s right.
