Osun State Government has stated that some of the Cote d’Ivoire returnees, who were isolated and tested for COVID-19 in April were not indigenes of the state.
Mr Ismail Omipidan, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Gboyega Oyetola, stated this in Osogbo on Thursday while featuring on Insightful Moment with Jare Tiamiyu, an online TV show.
He stated that some of those tested positive were also from other states, whom Governor Oyetola ordered to be treated in Ejigbo isolation center to prevent the spread of the virus.
Omipidan also states that the government deserves some commendation for treating an 82-year-old woman successfully as against the global belief that older people have low chances of surviving when they contract the disease.
“Our battle against COVID-19 was made easy because we had a visionary governor. When we came in, the governor started huge investment in healthcare, renovating 325 Primary Healthcare centers across the state. He also embarked on rehabilitation of Ede-Ejigbo road. When COVID-19 pandemic entered the state and we had large number in Cote de’Ivore returnees, our Tak was made easy because we had where to treat them and the road was good from Osogbo to Ejigbo.
“Imagine if the Ejigbo General Hospital was not in good shape? If the road to Ejigbo was still not motorable? The task battle would have been hard.
“On the issue of cases, some of those who claimed to be from Ejigbo local government were not even from Osun. We discovered that when we started documentation at Ejigbo isolation center, but the governor opted to treat them to prevent the spread of the virus.”
When asked about debt profile of the state state, Omipidan simply said, “it’s in the public domain, everyone can access that the information about Osun debt profile.”
On the issue of local government elections, the Governor’s Spokesperson said the state is commitment to holding local government elections in the state later this year adding that for now, the present local government administration law will be used.
He also highlighted the investment made in education, infrastructure, health sector, economy and agriculture by Governor Oyetola in the last eighteen months.
