Honorable commissioner for political affairs and inter-governmental relations, in Osun state, Hon Taiwo Akeju has said the article by those he described as faceless people calling on Governor Gboyega Oyetola not to contest for another term, is an issue with no genesis.
Akeju said this while featuring on Insightful Moment anchored by Jare Tiamiyu on Friday in Osogbo.
The Commissioner said we are in the era of democracy which gives freedom of expression and speech to everyone.
He said the people behind the said article are free to say whatever they like, adding that decency must be the hallmark.
“I don’t react to things like this but if I should, I will say in my own opinion, that the publication and those behind it are faceless.”
When asked if he thinks the matter may end like that of the former Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwumi Ambode, Akeju said, “No! Forget it, You as a media person (talking to the journalist) you can pen anything down and publish it on the newspaper which is your duty. But Ambode’s issue in Lagos State cannot happen here in Osun and again Ambode went through the primaries and lost which define the whole issue. So therefore, it can’t happen in Osun state based on the fact that it’s clear to us that all the Governors of a state are the leader of their parties aside that the party is happy as well as the people of the state because of his great effort.
“The publication came out on Tuesday and reflected on Friday but all I can say is that maybe Najeem Salam must have tendered an apology because he’s too decent and he’s also a part and parcel of the party though I can’t speak for him but I know him very well because he’s my friend, he’s too decent.
When asked if he’s a member of the All Progressives Congress and if he thinks there are some aggrieved members in the party.
Akeju said, “I wouldn’t know because no one has walk up to me to say he/she is aggrieved to the work of Governor besides people are happy with his work. For instance, despite the scarcity of funds and the current situation of the economy, salaries are being paid to all government workers even ahead of the Federal government, pensions has also been paid, our security level has improved and so on.
Commenting on the growth of Osun at 29, the Former NADECO strongman said the state is faring well and it’s the best among its peers who were created in 1991.
“My gratitude to almighty God on the current position of Osun State because this present government is doing its best to bring our past leaders dreams into reality. I could remember vividly that when Osun hasn’t been carved out of Old Oyo State, we dominated in all spheres of administration in the state I.e Education, Government and even in the Monarch (council of Oba’s). But during the military regime of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, Osun was carved out of Old Oyo to become a state on its own in 1991. We have to thank our Past leaders that has ruled us and the current administration for their hardwork and consistency in bring Osun to this level.
“Yes! We’re already at the stage we ought to be but we would continue to develop everyday. There are various ways in which Osun has developed i.e Higher institutions, Good roads, Economy, Poverty reduction. We cannot merge the present Osun with other states that were created alongside Osun in 1991, we just have to thank God and our leaders because we’re absolutely doing well.
