Condemnations have continued to trail the Independence day national broadcast of President Muhammadu Buhari as activists and public affairs analysts have described the speech as insult on Nigerians.
Some public affairs analysts who spoke with InsightMedia in Osogbo said the government of President Muhammadu Buhari has failed the country, calling on Nigerians to rise against “injustice and poor policies” of the government.
President Buhari on Thursday in his October 1st broadcast said the total deregulation of the downstream sector of the petroleum products has come to stating, stating that the country sells fuel cheaper than other member of Oil Producing and Exporting Country (OPEC).
Speaking in a telephone interview with our Correspondent, the Convener of Dialogue 365, Comrade Waheed Saka described the statement as watery and an insult on the people of the country.
“Buhari is not taking us to anywhere. His direction, body language and statements show that he lack the commitment for the welfare of the people. This administration is not concerned about the people, it only cares about the elites.
“Buhari removed fuel subsidy and also approved the increment in electricity tariff, all towards enriching the few benefiting from it.
“By that address of the president, I still find it difficult to trust this government. I find it difficult to believe their rhetorics because they have remains less concerned, aloof and unknowledgeable about what Nigerians are going through.”
As speaking, Mr Adeniyi Suleiman called on Nigerians not to rely on Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, but to storm the street and protest the present policies.
Adeniyi said the Nigerian government has continued to take welfare of citizens with levity. He described the disruption of peaceful rally in Osogbo by men of the Department of State Service as illegal and gross abuse of right.
“Nigerians cannot continue to rely on NLC and TUC as they have failed us. We need to massively restrict all these anti-people policies from Buhari government. Any government that failed to prioritize welfare of its people should be totally restricted.
“People have to fight for their fundamental rights. By the virtue of Constitution, citizens have rights to gather Andrew protest against government. The disruption of peaceful protest by the DSS officers is an aberration. The officers don’t know what they are doing because that’s not part of their constitutional mandate.” He said.
