Former Governorship aspirant and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Osun, Dr Olayinka Ayinde has called on EndSARS protesters to exercise patience in pursuit of the justice.
Ayinde made this call on Wednesday while speaking with InsightMedia in Iwo.
He said the battle against police brutality is long overdue and commended the young people for taking the lead in the actualization of the process. He said he’s aware of lives lost due to extra-judicial killings by police officers.
“I want to give kudos to our energetic young men and women who have demonstrated capacity and resilience. This has affirmed my earlier position that Nigerian youths must take leadership and they have demonstrated that now.
“As someone very close to the grassroots, I’m aware of lives that have been cut short by police officers. This must stop and I join Nigerian youths to call for #EndSARS. The time to holistically reform the entire police force is now.
“However, it’s obvious that the battle is won as the police authority and the federal government have acceded to the demands, by disbanding SARS and forming new unit called SWAT.
“It’s at this juncture that I call on our able young men and women to exercise patience and give the government benefits of doubt. Let’s wait and see how coming events will pan out.
“I also urge genuine protesters to be wary of unscrupulous element who may want to use the avenue to perpetrate evils. I enjoin you to put the protest on hold as we have achieved our aim.
