Tension has engulfed atmosphere of the Osun State University, Ikire campus after a student killed himself.

The student, identified as Juba Babatunde Phillips committed suicide after posting cryptic messages on social media.

Phillips, until his death a student of the department of Theatre Arts.

According to reports gathered, the late student was found dead in his hostel room by a friend on Tuesday, November 24, 2020.

Prior to his death, he had shared messages on his WhatsApp status, commenting on hardship and suicide.

It was gathered that the posts prompted his friend to rush to his hostel to check on him, only to find him already dead with a bottle allegedly containing a poisonous substance next to him. One of his housemates narrated that they found sniper by his side.

Friends of the deceased have taken to Facebook and other Social media platforms to mourn him.

However, another narrative filtered on the campus yesterday, Wednesday as an unconfirmed report has it that Phillips was suffering from an undisclosed illness which resulted to his death.

A source said the atmosphere is full of uncertainty as students do not know what to believe between the two stories.

The source said, “we were told by those close to him that they found a bottle of sniper by his side. But yesterday we were told that an autopsy result has it that he died as a result of an undisclosed illness he has been battling it. But we can’t confirm that because the school has not released any statement on it neither have we seen the said result.”
