As part of the activities marking the 29th Owu National Convention, the Olowu of Kuta and Chairman of Supreme Council of Owu Obas, Oba Hammed Adekunle Makama Oyelude today flagged off the free medical checkup organized by the Owu Youths Worldwide.
The flag-off, which started at his palace in Owu Kuta, signalled the commencement of the two-day gathering of Owu sons and daughters across the globe.
Speaking at the programme, Oba Makama expressed delight over the programme facilitated by the young persons in Owu. He said the programme shows the commitment of Owu youths to Owu land.
The monarch said, “We’re here to flag off the Free Medical Programme of Owu Youth in commemoration of our 29th Annual National Convention. This programme is organized by our youths to ensure they contribute to the development of Owu land.
“It’s to ensure our people live healthy and we appreciate our young people for this initiative.
Immediately after the flag-off, the monarch becomes the first person to be tested by the medical team on ground.
Speaking with newsmen, the National President of Owu Youths, Mr Mikhail Adigun said the programme is to compliment the efforts of the Royal Union of Owu People in bringing development to Owu land.
He said as young persons, they are concerned about the well-being of every one living in Owu land, stating that all the checks up, treatment and drugs are going to be exclusively free for everyone present.
At the Mosque, the Chief of Immam of Kuta land, Sheikh Abdulhakeem Oloyin in his sermon described the leadership qualities of the Olowu of a productive one for the people of Owu Kuta.
The Islamic cleric said leadership position is a trust, urging everyone in position of authority to ensure they do their best for the benefits of those under them.
“What this community has been asking for (referring to the Kuta-Ede bridge) has been done through the influence of Olowu. Whoever passes there will willingly or unwillingly pray for those whom Almighty Allah used to get it done. We believe with you, others development strides that we look forward to will also be achieved soon.
“We should continue to learn from the leadership qualities of the Holy Prophet as exemplified by our monarch too. We pray to Almighty Allah to grant him long life on throne”. Sheikh Oloyin said.
The Monarch while responding, donated a sum of one million naira for the completion of the renovation works in the Mosque, adding that the completion of the project and construction of Kuta town hall are crucial to him.
The grand event is expected to kick off tomorrow, Saturday at 10am.
Expected at the programme are former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo; Governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola, among other personalities.
