No fewer than 11 persons have sustained bullet injuries in the latest communal clash between Ilobu and Erin-osun, both in Irepodun local government area of Osun State.
Several houses were also vandalized in the clash that began around 3pm on Saturday, February 6th.
InsightMedia gathered that the cause of the crisis is the ongoing national population EAD phase 12, also known as land demarcation.
Residents of the two towns, mostly youths, gathered at their palaces till 11pm on Saturday as those sustained bullet injuries were being taken to hospital. No death was recorded as at 11pm on Saturday.
As the news filtered into both neighbouring communities, youths were said to have mobilised themselves to the disputed area where two houses were said to have been vandalised.
About five persons reported to have sustained gun injuries were taken to Ilobu palace where they are said to be attended to by local hunters.
Confirming the incident, the state police command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, said two persons from Ilobu, Azeez Adamu and Abdullah Tairu were shot in the legs during the crisis.
The crisis started at an area called Oke Awesin around 2pm and escalated to CAC area with attacks on house in the areas. Palpable tension rented the atmosphere as residents of the disputed area fled their homes for fear of midnight attacks.
The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Wale Olokode while speaking with InsightMedia late on Saturday said he was at the palace of Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olatoye Olaniyan for peace meeting, assuring citizens of restoration of peace.
One of the Chiefs at Elerin palace told our Correspondent yesterday that the Community has lost no one to the crisis. He said they have held a peace meeting and believe peace will be restored soon.
At Olobu palace, it was gathered that no life has been lost too, while those who sustained gunshot were taken to hospital.
Calm as returned to the community on Sunday morning as residents were seen going about their normal businesses.
