If you have ever want a perfect understanding of happenings in the Gboyega Oyetola government, I’ll advise you to lay your hand on an article written by Amitolu Shittu, a self-styled activist and an appointee of the government. It was a bombshell, and as against the consistent posture of the government, Osun is in the wrong hand.

While I do not share some of Amitolu’s personal attacks, however, the truth which the article has further affirmed is that all is not well with the Oyetola’s government. At the risk of not sounding cynical, we can conclude from Amitolu’s article that most of the inadequacies of this administration can be traced to incompetency, favouritism, nepotism and indiscipline.

Imagine Oyetola having no other choice as his Chief of Staff but someone who, according to Amitolu, failed grossly as the head of now moribund government scheme, O’Reap. Recall that some individuals supplied contaminated rice during coronavirus lockdown which was distributed Osun residents, and Mr Oyetola promised to fish out the perpetrators. Till this hour, nothing is yet hard from the so called investigation from the government.

As Rauf Aregbesola’s men are busy throwing tantrums at the government on daily basis, those within are also busy fighting themselves, and disturbingly, none of the the fights is about the people but selfish interests that contributed to the disappointing state that Osun has found itself. That is the truth and no one should think otherwise.

True, Amitolu had removed the article but we cannot take away the fact that he has successfully disgraced, exposed and raised the consciousness of Osun people to the distasteful trend of things under Oyetola. Moreover, Amitolu’s article has set a precedent, which in my estimation was bad, and provided an avenue for others to throw mud at government from the inside if no decisive action is taken against him and the matter is swept under the carpet just as the contaminated rice incident was.

That will not be good for the government. Since a disciplinary panel is already set up, the right thing to do is allowed the process runs it cause and when appropriate, take to their recommendations so that things can be straighten up.

And more, Oyetola will need to convince Osun people that his cabinet is not populated by those who had failed in past responsibilities. We all know how important a CoS is to an administration, and having someone who couldn’t deliver in smaller role, will no doubt weigh heavily on the government.

If truly that is what is set out to achieve, the thing, however, out there don’t show it. For those who are observant enough, they could see that like most of the things under Buhari, fight to bring graft under control is undermined by favourism and political considerations. Opposition parties have consistently draw attentions to this drift but little or nothing was done to straighten things.

If this government wants people to take its leadership serious, they must be ready to take a decisive decision based on recommendation of the disciplinary committee.
