A suspected cultist, Moses Akintunde on Thursday told the Osun State Police Command that he is a member of Buccaneer Association and not a cultist.

Akintunde, 22, was arrested along Adedayo Olamilekan and Ayomipo Oluyemi, in Ile Ife by men of the Nigerian Police earlier in the week.

Parading the suspects, the state Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode reinstated the Command’s commitment towards making the state an unsafe haven for criminals.

“Let me assure you that, fight against Cultism/Thuggery continues.
The Police in Osun as well as Government of Osun State would not tolerate any act of violence upon its citizens.” Olokode said.

“Every hoodlums involved in these nefarious acts would soner than later be arrested and face prosecution; unless they totally repent.
Parents are by this directive warned to admonish their children and wards to desist from criminal acts; otherwise they may be charged along for shielding the criminals.” He added.

Speaking with InsightMedia, Akintunde said he was arrested at his residence in Ile Ife. He stated that he only belongs to Buccaneers and he’s not a cultist.

When asked what they do at Buccaneers, Akintunde said “Buccaneers association is a fineboys association. We are there to only protect ourselves. The gun found on us belongs to the Association.”

“I joined the association in 2018 when I wanted to contest for Student Union Assistant Secretary at the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta.”

The police commissioner also paraded members of Aiye, Eiye and Alora secret cults who have been terrorizing Osogbo in the last few weeks.

“It would be re-called that, on 28th March, 2021 some unscrupulous elements suspected to be Eiye, Aiye and Alora cult confraternity engaged themselves in supremacy battle which led to the death of three (3) of their members; one Akinwale Rotimi around Arikalamu area of Osogbo and one Sogo Owonikoko popularly called “Marley” around Obate area, Osogbo and one other member.

“In view of the above, the command carried out intelligence led raid investigation and arrested the following suspected Aiye, Eiye and Alora confraternity who have been terrorizing Osogbo, Ile-Ife, Ikire and environs.”

In total, 28 suspects were paraded by the police with one arrested in connection with kidnapping and armed robbery around Wasimi area along Ife-Ibadan expressway.
