Osun State Government has revealed that it has 97% budget implementation in the year 2020, despite huge impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on its economy.
Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Prof. Olalekan Yinusa revealed this in Osogbo on Sunday, during a media chat organized by Matadors Leadership Initiatives in partnership with the office of the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
Yinusa said the budget process in Osun has been rejigged and reshaped since the adminstration of Governor Gboyega Oyetola came on board.
The Commissioner said the percentage implementation has increased and most of the projects executed are nominated by the people. He said the project executed during the period are products of the thank you tour embarked upon by the Governor in 2019.
“In 2018, our budget performance was 58.95 percent. In 2019, Osun has 66.08% while in 2020, we had 97.22%. In the first quarter of 2021, our budget performance was 73.91 percent.”
Speaking on how projects are nominated, Yinusa said most of the projects executed are nominated by the people through their requests to the Governor when he embarked on the thank you tour. He said the next year’s budget will be dominated by the requests made by people in the ongoing civic engagement across all local government areas of the state.
Yinusa applauded Oyetola for the initiative, stating that, “I had have reasons to stand up at the EXCO meeting twice to appreciate the Governor for the initiative. The Governor doesn’t joke with the requests at civic engagement ongoing. He calls on relevant agencies to immediately work on requests and get them delivered. This is why I can say that all the roads constructed so far by this adminstration are nominated by the people.”
