The Commissioner for woman and children affairs in Osun State, Mrs Olubukola Olaboopo and a renowned development expert, Dr Wumi Akin-Onigbinde have advised female teenagers to remain focused and be determined to face challenges ahead of them.

Olaboopo spoke in Ilobu, headquarters of Irepodun local government area of the state, during a symposium organised by members of the Ilobu National Students Union in honour of Dr Akin-Onigbinde, who is a daughter of the soil.

The Commissioner, who was one of the guest speakers at the event, charged female not to see themselves as lesser human beings to the male counterparts.

She highlighted the roles played by several women activists and business moguls across the globe, adding those feets were achieved through commitment, focus and hardworking.

“My female students, be focused and committed to your development. Don’t let anyone sweettalk you. You’re as great as your male counterparts.

Speaking on the ways to increase women participation in politics and policy making, Olaboopo urged men to join hand with women advocates towards attainment of the goal five of the Sustainable Development Goals, which centers on Gender Equality.

She said, “Let men be canvassers for emancipation of women and improved participation of women in political space. The era of go-and-sit down has gone and men must know that. With this, we will achieve desired results.”

In her remark, the honouree, Dr Akin-Onigbinde expressed her delight over the programme, adding that

The Development Expert expressed her readiness towards mentoring young females in Ilobu. She also charged the younger generation to be focused and determined.

Highlights of the programme was presentation of awards to the honouree and the speakers by the union.
