Warri: Delta South senatorial district of the All Progressives Congress, APC , has described as unfair a newspaper publication with the heading :Urhobo Ethnic Nationality in Delta South disowns communique published by Dr Alex and others of the APC Delta south senatorial district.
The party in a statement made available to the Vanguard and signed by Mr Awala Gbubemi of its APC Solidarity Front , said there was no where in its communique published it was said that Urhobo sons and daughters should not enjoy federal appointments.
“That the communique did not say that the people of the six Federal wards in Warri South (part of Warri Urban), who are mainly Urhobos should be denied federal appointments. “, it said
Continuing, the statement said it was only fair for the Itsekiri, Ijaws and Isokos in the senatorial district of the party to demand for appointment into the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, an agency set up to redress ecological challenges in oil and gas communities.
The Ijaw, Isoko and Itsekiri jointly produce over 80% oil and gas in Delta State. Therefore, in our view, it is fair, just and equitable that one of them should be appointed into any vacancy meant for Delta State in the NDDC Board.”, it said.
Continuing, the statement said the Urhobos already occupy several positions at the national level, adding that other ethnic nationalities in Delta South should also be considered for appointment into positions.
“Is it that all Federal appointments must go to Urhobo, otherwise hell will be let loose? Don’t the Ijaw, Isoko and Itsekiri of Delta South not also deserve appointments, especially one that deals with oil and gas production amelioration?”, it queried.
“It is unfortunate that the authors in their write up decided to attack the person of Chief (Mrs) Obruche, a renowned and highly respected politician in Warri South, who has always projected the rights of the Urhobos of Warri South in the Warri politics in the past 20 years from DPP, to Labour Party and now in APC. “, he said

Even at the meeting under reference, she did the same.( but as it is in politics the minority will have their say, and majority will have their way.) “, it added.
“To give an Urhobo candidate this NDDC appointment, in addition to all the other appointments stated will amount to gross injustice to the Ijaw, Isoko and Itsekiri that produce as earlier stated over 80% of the oil and gas in Delta State.
No amount of intimidation, abuse, uncouth language or threat of war will deter us from stating what is right.”, it said.
