There was a mild drama on Friday in Ileogbo, headquarters of Ayedire local government area of Osun State as the community rejected motorcycles donated to them by the House of Representatives member representing Ayedire/Bolowaduro/Iwo federal constituency, Yinusa Amobi Akintola.
The community leaders, rising from a meeting at the Palace of Olu of Ileogbo, Oba Habeeb Adetoyese, instructed every beneficiaries of the empowerment to return the motorcycles and presented them with new ones.
They instead demanded infrastructural development from the lawmaker, who they said have been marginalizing the town in terms of physical development.
In his address, the national president of Ileogbo Unity Forum Mr Anthony Owolabi who led the members of the community to the palace said “this is a new era in Ileogbo where we need all and sundry to support project Ileogbo in every place we find ourselves. It is no longer a news that Ileogbo should come first in every position we find ourselves and we must not sell the interest of the community because of personal or political interest.”
“This is a new Ileogbo and we believe this will pass a strong warning to all political actors who may think or have been thinking Ileogbo is irrelevant or has no political direction. Anybody who intends to sell the interest of Ileogbo, as cursed by Kabiesi using the community traditional crown, shall not go scot-free,” said Anthony.
Among the people who graced the occasion were Asiwaju of Ileogbo Chief R.A. Nafiu, new executive members of Ayedire Local Government led by the chairman Engr Adejare Adigun, Hon. Gbenga Ogunkanmi [Osun House of Assembly Deputy Chief Whip], Oluomo of Ileogbo Alhaji Dele Sabit Nafiu who is also an APC chieftain in Osun West Senatorial district.
When contacted, Akintola said the motorcycles were distributed in January 2020 and the community only helped him replace them as they are old already.
“Community only help honourable Amobi to replace the old ones given to the Ward chairmen with new the ones given to them by honourable the old ones was never returned to Honourable.”
The lawmaker referred our correspondent to a Facebook post dated January 19, 2020 when the bikes were distributed to chairmen of All Progressives Congress in the community.
