•••Why I lead others from 10 LGAs to join APC – Olasheinde-Mustapha
Former Special Adviser on Strategy and Planning to former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola , Hon. Funmilayo Olasheinde Mustapha on Wednesday led thousands of her followers from the People’s Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.
Olasheinde-Mustapha was received by Governor Gboyega Oyetola and the APC Caretaker Chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun at an event held in Osogbo, the State capital.
Other party chieftains at the event were wife of the Governor, Alhaja Kafayat Oyetola; Deputy Governor, Benedict Alabi; former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Patricia Etteh; former deputy Governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore; Senate’s spokesperson, Senator Ajibola Basiru and the party chairman, cabinet members, among others.
Hon. Funmilayo, who was a former House of Assembly member under the PDP and a former council chairman, led her supporters from the Ila Federal Constituency, comprising Ila, Boluwaduro and Ifedayo and other seven councils in the state, noted that she left PDP because of its protracted crisis.
She noted that a party that could not fix its challenges could certainly not fix that of the State, adding that Oyetola’s achievements in just three years despite the financial challenges were worthy of emulation.
According to her, “the PDP has been in a protracted crisis for years. Everyday we fight one another. Imagine a party that cannot fix its crisis, thinking of fixing Osun State. Is that possible?
“The I sat down to analyse things and I saw that the current administration is really performing. Our workers are receiving their salaries, many roads have been constructed, healthcare revitalized and many others. Then I said, the best thing is to join our Governor by moving to the APC.”
Speaking further on how the wife of the Governor has used her foundation, IleriOluwa Development Initiatives to touch her life and that of her supporters positively without minding their political affiliation, Olasheinde-Mustapha described the Osun First Lady as a “woman with large heart”.
Addressing the crowd, Governor Gboyega Oyetola, whose second term aspiration was boosted by the defection, welcomed Olasheinde-Mustapha to the APC.
He said the PDP in Osun has been deflated as “quality people” have left its fold. He added that his administration has achieved greatly even at the “headquarters of Osun PDP”.
“I welcome you to the Progressives family. I believe that the PDP in Osun has continued to be reducing in numbers as we have captured their best brains. It’s only left with those that are deceiving themselves.
“They thought we would not be able to govern the State because of paucity of funds. But they are amazed by our achievements. All their campaign points in 2018 have been overturned. No half salaries again in Osun. Even at their headquarters in Ede, our administration has done greatly in terms of infrastructures. Healthcare Centers are at all wards of the State.” – Oyetola said.
