President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of technical board of directors for the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) institutes.

The appointment is for the deployment and application of appropriate science and engineering technology for solutions to the socio-economic problems in Nigeria.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha said the appointments were based on merit of seasoned researchers, practicing engineers and scientists.

The SGF stated this at the Inauguration of the board in Abuja.

Mustapha, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, general services office of the SGF, Dr Maurice Nnamdi, said: ” Mr. President has approved the composition of these Technical Committees for the deployment and application of appropriate science and engineering technology because it is the obvious solution to the myriads of our socio-economic problems in Nigeria.

So, your appointments were absolutely based on merit and your pedigrees as seasoned researchers and practicing engineers and scientists, hence the need to bring your years of dedication and truly valuable contributions to our institutions and the professional bodies in which you will serve.”

Chairman/Chief Executive NASENI, Prof. Mohammed Haruna, said the inauguration of the technical board by Mr President fulfills his promise of repositioning the agency to deliver competitive products and services globally.

He said: “Membership of these Technical Boards are among Nigeria’s very best Engineers and Scientists who have distinguished themselves in their areas of specializations.

“Their nominations by various professional bodies, and approval by Mr. President, is based on their pedigree. This is therefore a challenge to the Nigerian Scientific and Engineering Professionals to use knowledge and technical innovations ‘for economic transformation. This is also an opportunity to demonstrate local innovation and capacity.”
