The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the appointment of 27 lawyers as judges, just it it also recommended 11 senior judges as heads of courts.

The NJC took the decision at its 95th meeting held between September 15 and16 in Abuja.

In a statement on Sunday, NJC Director of Information, Soji Oye, said “all recommended candidates are expected to be sworn-in after approval by the President, Muhammadu Buhari and their respective state governors and confirmation by the respective state House of Assembly.”

The NJC, Oye added, recommended Justice Husseini Baba Yusuf as the Chief Judge of the High Court of the FCT; Justice Joe Itsebaga Acha as the Chief Judge of the High Court of Justice of Edo State and Justice Richard O. Olorunfemi as the Chief Judge of the High Court of Kogi State.

Others are Justices Akintoroye Williams Akin (Ondo State); Ekaette Francesca Fabian-Obot (Akwa Ibom); J. O. Adeyeye (Ekiti); Kadi Baba Gana Mahdi (as Grand Kadi, Yobe State) and Umaru Ahmad Liman (Grand Kadi, Bauchi State).

Others are Osagede Osado Emmanuel (President, Customary Court of Appeal, Nasarawa State); Mashud Akintunde Akinfemi Abass (President, Customary Court of Appeal, Oyo State) and Siyaka Momoh Jimoh Usman (President, Customary Court of Appeal, Kogi State).

The lawyers recommended for appointment as judges are: Zainab Abdulkadir Rasheed, Abdussalam Muhammad and Daurabo Suleiman Sikkam (for High Court of Gombe State); Effiong Asukwo Effiong and Princess Eme Daniel Ekong (for High Court of Akwa Ibom State); Nana Fatima Jibril (for High Court of Bauchi State), and Abdulkarim Mahmud and Eugene Michael (High Court of Kaduna State).

Others are Kabir Shuaibu, Ibrahim Ishaku Mashi and Ibrahim Abubakar Mande (High Court of Katsina State); Prof Alero Akeredolu (High Court of Ondo State); Olusola Adebisi Adetujoye, Folabimpe Beatrice Segun Olakojo, Prof Taiwo Elijah Adewale and Kareem Adeyimika Adedokun (High Court of Oyo State) and Ajadi Olubukola Omolayo (judge, Customary Court of Appeal, Oyo State).

The others are Abubakar Sule Ibrahim, Abdullah Sulyman and Aminu Ali Eri (High Court of Kogi State); Adamu Kuna Jibril and Ahmed Baba Bala (Kadis, Sharia Court of Appeal, Gombe State); Musa Sani Abubakar, Mahdi Manga, Khamis Al-Hamidallah Muhammad and Sani Musa (Kadis, Sharia Court of Appeal, Bauchi State) and Orimisan James Okorisa (judge, Customary Court of Appeal, Ondo State).
