As world continues to move digital, the banking system must not be left behind, most especially, the Microfinance Banks. This was the core of discussion on Wednesday as the National Association of Microfinance Banks, Osun State chapter held training for members of its staff on electronic banking.

 

The seminar, which is the second of such in this year, was held at the Association’s secretariat in Osogbo, the State capital.

Staff of Microfinance Banks selected across all the member branches were taken through the process of digitalizing their operations by facilitators sourced from banking and finance sector.

Speaking with InsightMedia at the seminar, the Vice Chairman of NAMB in Osun State, Alhaji Tunde Lawal, who represented the Chairman of the Association said the training is aimed at achieving several goals all pointing towards development of Microfinance Banks in the State.

He said the world has gone digital and they are ready to ensure that Microfinance banking catches up with the global trend.

“This is another initiative from the Microfinance Banks. We believe our customers are interested in electronic banking and we’re set to ensure that they get it. Our staff are being trained on how to handle transactions through e-banking.”

Speaking from on the theme of the seminar, which is “Training on Innovative e- payment platforms solutions for MFBS”, lead facilitator, Dr Rasheed Alade Abdulahi explained the prospect and challenges of e-banking and how microfinance can be sustainable and profitable using the platform.

Abdullahi, who is a lecturer at the Department of Banking and Finance, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, emphasized on the need for training and retraining for staff for quality service delivery.

Other facilitators gave more details at the training on how to go about e – banking. They said rather than making it physical transactions. They explained the two types of customers and how to handle participants and how to best handle each of them.

Mr Adedoja O.O spoke extensively on the benefit and roles of e- banking which are; convenient role, cost saving role confidence role, and to to increase the client base.

Some of the participants who spoke to InsightMedia expressed joy over the training, stating that it will “improve their service delivery at their desks.”
