The crisis rocking Kwara State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), today, independence day, further deepened, as two factional ward executives across the 193 wards emerged from two parallel congresses, held in different locations in Kwara state.
While the group loyal to the former President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki produced a set of ward executives across the 193 wards, another group under the aegies of PDP Redemption Group, said, it has validly produced a set of executives through another congress.
Speaking on behalf of the Redemption Group, Lawal Nurain , the spokesperson said they stand by the outcomes of the ward congress freely held across the 193 wards by the members of the party, charging the members loyal to their group to remain committed and United as they prepare for both coming LGAs and State Congresses.
According to Nursing , attempts to turn the landlords to tenants in their own house is not only misdirected but an action that must be resisted through all means permissible by the laws of the land.
Recalled that the former Kwara political lord, Saraki and some prominent members had been embroiled in crisis, with the two opposing groups flexing muscles over the control of the state party’s structures.
This fierce political rivalry was further made public today, the nation’s independence day, when an agrieved group, under the banner of PDP Redemption Group, condemned the ward congress conducted by the group loyal to Saraki, asserting that the ward executives produced by the congress held by them should be upheld.
As at time of filing this report, attempt to hear from the State Chairman of the party, Hon Kola Shittu has not been successful.
However, the Redemption Group is urging the national secretariat to recognize the ward executives produced by its congress and disregard that of the group loyal to Saraki, which it discribed as Kangaroo arrangement.
In the meantime, some aggrieved members of the party today stormed the streets of Ilorin to protest attempt to recognize a ward held by Bukola Saraki group.
The party faithful, mainly from the 16 local government areas of the State, were armed with placards with different inscriptions all pointing to Saraki’s dominance.
