An Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo has restrained the Osun State Government and Orolu local government from continue the process of selecting the next Olufon of Ifon-Orolu Kingdom.
Justice A. O. Oyebiyi granted the order while granting ex-parte injunction brought to it by Prince Sulaimon Akinyooye and 10 others.
The plaintiff have approached the court to stop the selection of Olufon using the 1979 declaration, asking the court to mandate the use of 1988 declaration.
Justice Oyebiyi said, “I have painstakingly considered the application, the grounds, the affidavit in support, the exhibit and the Written Address of the learned Counsel for the applicant. I am satisfied that the application is not unmeritorious. I am therefore inclined towards granting the application prayed but with as modifications.
“Specifically, an order of Interim Injunction is hereby made restraining the 1″ to the 11 Defendants from using the 1979 Olufon of Ifon Chieftaincy Declaration to announce, select, appoint or approve the appointment of anyone to fill the vacant stool of Olufon of Ifon Chieftaincy pending the hearing and determination of the Applicants Motion on Notice.”
The court adjourned to December 13th, 2021 for hearing.
Listed as defendants are Prince Wahabi Oyegbile, Osun State Governor, Attorney General of Osun State, Commissioner and Special Adviser on local government and chieftaincy affairs, Chairman of Orolu local government, Chief Oyetunde Oyetunji and High Chief Amusa Majoyegbe.
Others are High Chief Julius Oyeleke, High Chief Moshood Adeoye, High Chief Adamo Akintunde and High Chief Lamulatu Afolabi.
