Super Eagles of Nigeria on Tuesday defeated the Pharaohs of Egypt with a goal to nil in their Group D opener at the ongoing African Cup of Nations.
Kelechi Iheanacho scored the only goal at 30th minute after a super cross from Moses Simon.
The Eagles, who are in the tournament as one of the favourites, had several other chances to extend their lead in both halves as Egyptian goalkeeper, Muhammed El Sharawi denied Ejike on two occasions.
The Pharaohs, who are seven times champions only had a noticeable shot on target from Liverpool talisman, Mohammed Salah.
Egypt, who came into the tournament as favourites too, are unbeaten in their last six group games matches.
The victory means Augustine Eguavon starts his interim reign with a win.
