The Olowu of Kuta, Oba Hammed Adekunle Makama Oyelude has stated that history will not be kind to the former Governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande over the way he treated traditional rulers and traditional institution during his tenure as Governor of the State.
Oba Oyelude stated this on Wednesday when he appeared as Guest at the Association of Veteran Journalists special programme, tagged The Frontliners. The programme was held in Osogbo, Osun State capital.
The monarch said what Akande said in his autobiography, My Participation, shows that he still nurses disregard for the traditional stools in Yoruba land.
“What Akande said in his autobiography shows he still has no respect for the traditional institution. This is why he records no success after leaving office.
“Till tomorrow, history will not be kind to Akande. He said in his book that he intentionally refused t constitute the council of Obas because he didn’t believe in them. That’s a big disregard to traditional institution. Imagine his role in the crisis of Aloko of Iloko-Ijesha?”
Speaking on the constitutional roles for traditional institution, Oba Oyelude said the constitution as it is now has no role for royal fathers across the country. But an amendment bill to insert such is expected to be an executive bill.
He however said, “maybe requesting that it should be an executive bill will mean that we’re asking for too much thing. But as we know we have princes and princesses at the National Assembly, we will look into the working with them.”

The monarch urged journalists to ensure they de-escalate tensions through their reportage as the Osun State governorship elections approaches.
He also expressed his sadness over the security situation in the State, calling on journalists to ensure they put politicians on their toes to invest more in the sector.
“Osun needs more investment in security sector. I’m not particularly happy that banks in the Ifelodun/Boripe axis can’t operate. I’m not happy. I think since have a vibrant Amotekun Corps in Osun, we can initiate a joint security operations with other States and other security agents to curb the attacks on banks.”
