The management of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi Uku, Aniocha South Council, yesterday, turned back hundreds of students, particularly females, who didn’t wear bra and underwear, saying indecent dressing is prohibited.

The management embarked on operation war against indecent dressing against staff and students who wore torn trousers and braless clothes.

It was gathered that the school management had warned repeatedly against indecent dressing and had pasted posters warning against low waist, spaghetti, open chest, tear jeans, short skirt.

The dressing, it was learnt, had given the school a bad name; hence the management directed its security department to monitor students and staff members who would not put on brassiere and underwear.”

The enforcement, yesterday, prevented some students from attending lectures and caused some to get late to classes. It almost led to unrest. When student’s off-campus heard their colleagues were stopped at the school gate, they mobilised to stop the school management from enforcing the policy.

A student said it was meant to sanitise the system, adding that “I’m against such dressing trending on the campus and distracting students, teaching and non-teaching staff. It is not the right kind of dressing at all. How can a mature girl wear clothes, some are even transparent, without underwear. That is why men rape them. They even distract lecturers and others. I am not sure they are here to study. Well, they belong to the class of Yahoo girls.”

Another student, however, said it was an infringement on their rights as students, asking that “how would the school management know those who put on underwear and those who do not? To me it is an insult and the school authority should stop the move immediately,” he asked.

The school Assistant Director, Public Relations, Manfred Oyibogbeye, who confirmed the story, said “It is not a policy of no bra no entry. The school is only carrying out sensitisation to discourage indecent dressing. Later, there will be a measure to sanction those that go against the rules.” (The Guardian)
