Residents of Osogbo and other adjoining towns in Osun State are currently lamenting the drop in power supply by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company.
The residents who spoke with InsightMedia in Osogbo, Ilobu, Ede, Ifon-Orolu and other towns said the sharp drop has greatly affected their businesses, thereby posing threats to their survival.
InsightMedia gathered that in Oke-Baale, the decrease is well over 8hrs compared to what it was before, while residents of Ofatedo, Aduramigba and Onibu-Eja told our Correspondent that the supply is now a day-on and a day off, unlike 16hrs minimum they enjoyed before.
Same story was narrated by residents of Testing Ground area of Osogbo, Ilobu and Erin-Osun in Irepodun local government area of the State.
A resident identified as Wasiu told our Correspondent that the bill which is usually done according to bands have not changed despite the obvious drop. “We still pay based on band B. But what we have is lower to the expected supply to band B. This means, we’re being cheated. This is very bad.”
Another residents described the development as saddened and helpless. He said the government has given the IBEDC too much power that they can’t be checked. “How can we be paying for what we don’t use? It’s unheard of. The supply has led to decrease in the patronage and that’s greatly affecting our businesses.”
When contacted by InsightMedia, the public relations officer of Osun region of IBEDC, Miss Kikelomo Owoeye denied drop in supply. She said the Commission is supplying consumers according to the bands.
“We’re supplying our consumers according to the bands and we have our records that we send to Nigerian Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC). If any consumer has any complaint, he or she should visit our customer care centers to report.” Owoeye said.
