•••As UNIOSUN Alumni Association holds leadership workshop
Federal Government has been advised to include Alumni Association in the negotiation with the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Universities Alumni, Dr Stephen Fasakin made this call on Wednesday in Osogbo while participating at a workshop organised by the Osun State University Alumni Association.
The workshop, which was part of UNIOSUN Alumni Association’s efforts towards rebranding the association for the betterment of all members, was organised for members of the Executive cabinet, Board of Trustees and the National Executive Council of the association.
The retreat was held at the Council Chambers, Senate building, Osogbo Campus on Wednesday, 9th of March, 202
The workshop had in attendance members of Association of Nigerian Universities Alumni and Chairman, University of Ilorin Alumni Association, Dr Stephen Fasakin; Chairman of LAUTECH Alumni Board of Trustees, Mr Babajide Bewaji, among other notable persons.
While speaking with InsightMedia, Fasakin expressed his unhappiness over the incessant ASUU strike, which according to him has led to shutting of classrooms at various campuses.
He called on the FG to include members of the ANUA as part of team negotiating with the University staff, stating that all critical stakeholders must be carried along to ensure robust dialogue that will bring lasting solution to the impasse.
“We have been calling on the federal government to ensure Alumni of universities are included in the negotiation team. We’re critical stakeholders in this matter and we need to be carried along.
“We have written several letters to the effects but it has not yielded any positive results”, Fasakin said.
In his lecture, Mr Babajide Bewaji called on UNIOSUN Alumni Association to ensure they participate actively in the raising and utilisation of endowment funds, stating that the University (UNIOSUN currently has 20 endowment funds.
Bewaji laid emphasis on the need for universities to have a way of maximizing endowment funds and to ensure its utilisation for the advancement of Universities.
Dr Ayo Adeyemi, the Managing Director of Lorache Consulting gave exclusive lecture of “Management-Alumni Relations, Towards a mutual understanding and complementarily”.
President of UNIOSUN Alumni Association, Mr Oladipupo Kabir Oriola expressed his readiness to serve the union while speaking on the roles the union has played since its inception
He said the association has moved from where it was and where it should be, adding that a scholarship programme for brilliant students will soon be launched.
Oriola said the training was part of the rebranding they association under his leadership is doing, stating that the workshop will not only increase the capacity of the Executive members but also spur them towards quality service delivery.
