Police in Osun State has arrested Miss Ganiyat Abass for kidnapping a 6-day-old baby and wrapped him inside a sack.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, who paraded the suspect together with her fiancee today at the police headquarters in Osogbo, the suspect was arrested in Iwo.
“A complaint reported at Iwo Division on 24th march, that the above named suspect connived together with her fiance Olatunbosun and stole a six day old baby from the lactating mother named Jemilat Musa, who is having medical challenge”. CP stated.
He continued by analyzing how the suspect confessed to visiting the Jemilat truly, and how Ganiyat tricked her to go outside in order to perpetuate her evil intentions.
” The suspect went to the apartment of the mother pretending to be her sister-in law,trickily gave her some wraps of cornmeal and sum of #200 to go and buy bean cake (moi moi). Shortly after the baby’s mother left to buy the bean cake,the suspect quickly put the baby inside a sack and ran away.” Olokode stressed further.
During an interview with the accused woman, She denied to be a kidnapper but helper to the lactating woman because they’re neighbours. ” the baby was found at my back not inside the sack, I back the baby and went towards Owode street when the mother didn’t return on time. I didn’t intend to kidnap the baby” Ganiyat explained.
Olatunbosun,who is the fiance to Ganiyat also stated his innocence concerning the issue,during an interrogation with insight correspondent.

” We just concluded our introduction, and I was expecting my wife to be, to arrive home untill I was called upon that she has been arrested. I explained to those people that she’s lying and she’s not the owner of the baby. I even asked her to breastfeed the baby in order to showcase the truth. I know nothing about this matter,please free me” He pleaded.
Jemilat, also spoke with our correspondent stating that she hasn’t met Ganiyat before in her life and she is nothing but a thief.
” I am well. I don’t have any mental disorder. We’re not living together and I’ve not seen her before until yesterday when she came like a good person to greet me, as I went out to buy moimoi, on my getting home I didn’t find my child again.”
